Forests are a key component of the biosphere.
They are an important renewable resource and provide essential environmental services such as supporting biodiversity, protection against soil erosion, correcting the water systems, carbon sequestration, or promoting the quality of the air and water. When managed sustainably, forests are a carbon reservoir reducing the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere, and contributing to the fight against climate change.
The Floresta Caixa Program contributed, and continues to contribute, to improve the environment, minimizing the environmental impact and seeking to instil good practices among its employees, customers and society in general, in a vision of social responsibility and sustainable development.
In the context of the Floresta Caixa Program we have been developing a series of different initiatives that, since 2006, have been focused on the active and sustainable management of the Portuguese Forest, by supporting various reforestation projects, the recovery of burnt areas and several environmental awareness campaigns on the importance of the forest.
