Sports, environment, new technologies, education, health, social solidarity... The list goes on, and becomes even larger when, from areas, we move onto occupations. Here we can find accountants, drivers, teachers, doctors, social workers, IT experts, lawyers, engineers and even actors, who share the unselfishness that led them to sign up for an innovative project, the Volunteers Pool (BV), to which they contribute with their time and the best of what they can do to help those in need: from IT experts available to convey their knowledge and experience with computers; to accountants, experts in dealing with accounts; including drivers, who take the reins of steering wheels, carrying people and goods; as well as many representatives of many other occupations, living together in a venue that becomes the meeting point between supply and demand of services that several institutions lack.

Launched in December 2006, the volunteers portal www.bolsadovoluntariado.pt took off with 5521 registered volunteers.

They are mainly women, seeking activities in major urban areas such as Lisbon and Porto, mostly students or teachers. These data confirm that even in times of crisis volunteering does not lose its strength.

For those wishing to offer their talents, they just need to access the website, register, and look for opportunities, both within Portugal and abroad, and then leave their details for future contact. As for organizations, the process is equally simple, also entailing a registration. Then, one just has to use the search tool to find the activities one needs the most.
