CGD is the first Portuguese bank to achieve environmental certification. The implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS), and the certification achieved, are the materialisation of the strategic commitment undertaken by the Bank's Environmental Policy. CGD achieved environmental certification under ISO 14001, and is the first Portuguese financial institution to achieve this recognition.
The EMS's scope of implementation is focused on activities developed in CGD's Head-Office, in Lisbon, and there are plans to extend it to other structures.
Continuing to foster its commitment to the environment, the efforts of CGD are aimed at defining quantitative goals and targets for the reduction of its environmental impact, with an emphasis on optimising its operational efficiency: energy, water consumption, mobility, waste, cost reduction, and reuse of resources.
The implementation of the EMS, and the certification achieved, are the materialisation of the strategic commitment undertaken by the Bank's Environmental Policy, helping to ensure its sustainability and competitiveness. On the other hand, this is a way for CGD to meet the current demands and expectations of its strategic stakeholders, anticipating future emerging trends in the market and in society in general, while integrating into current management the suggestions received from periodic consultations to its stakeholders.
The key for the project's success was the involvement and the participation of the CGD community and of each staff member individually, whose crucial role is now that of ensuring the continuity of the best environmental and managerial practices.
The delivery of certificates to CGD and its companies - Culturgest and CGD Social Services - took place in an Official Ceremony on November 25th at the Small Auditorium of Culturgest in Lisbon, and was attended by Mr José de Matos, CEO of CGD, and by Mr Fernando Caldeira dos Santos, Member of the Management Board of APCER.
Investing in the future, for a better CGD. Certainly.
