The 5th Edition of the Caixa Social Awards distinguishes the work of 36 social institutions, at national level, with a prize worth a total of 760 thousand euros, in the areas of intervention: Social Inclusion and Solidarity, Prevention and Health Care, Job Creation and Promotion and Education, Training and Capacity Building.
The Caixa Social Awards aims to finance and develop social projects, with an innovative character, replicable and aimed at mitigating poverty and promoting social inclusion, in its most varied aspects and in the most diverse ways, promoting initiatives undertaken by Third Sector entities.
As part of Caixa's Sustainability Strategy, these Awards are representative of the way in which the Bank contributes to Sustainable and Inclusive Growth, responding to the current problems of society, in the materialization of its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this edition, a total of 777 applications were received from all over the country, and 741 were considered eligible, with the following distribution: 44% of applications in Social Inclusion and Solidarity, 26% in Prevention and Health Care, 23% in Education, Training and Capacity Building and 6.5% in Job Creation and/or Promotion.
In a detailed analysis of the 36 awarded projects, 32% of the applications are from the area of Social Inclusion and Solidarity; 36% of the area of Prevention and Care of; 26% of the area of Education, Training and Capacity Building; 6% of the area of Job Creation and/or promotion.
The applications were assessed by an independent jury, composed of personalities who guarantee the inclusion of different views and experiences in the evaluation of the proposals, bearing in mind the areas of intervention of this edition. Chaired by António Farinha Morais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Caixa, it also included Filipe Almeida (President of the Portugal Social Innovation Mission Structure), Filipe Santos (Director of the Portuguese Catholic University), Maria José Ritta (former First Lady), Maria Marín (Non-Executive Director of Caixa), Viriato Soromenho Marques (Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of UL).
